It’s hard to believe, but Texas Appellate Counsel PLLC has been open for six months now. When I returned to solo practice in January, I was excited to refocus on the work I enjoy most: collaborating with trial lawyers to navigate legal issues and position cases for success before, during, and after trial.
I’ve been busy with client work from the outset—so much so that I neglected to share this Law360 Pulse interview when it first came out: “How Lone Star Appellate Pro Strives To ‘See Around Corners'” (subscription required). The article highlights what led me to start the firm and how my practice supports trial lawyers throughout the life of a case and not just on appeal. As I said in the interview:
“I get paid to see around corners. It’s a very challenging, but fulfilling role.”
Whether I’m working behind the scenes or stepping in as counsel of record, the goal is always to strengthen the case and avoid costly missteps.
The interview also touches on the Texas Appellate Law Podcast, which I co-host with Jody Sanders. (I’m pretty sure the phrase “appellate prevention practice” as used in the article came from Jody’s partner at Kelly Hart & Hallman, David Keltner—a previous guest and one of the deans of Texas appellate law.) We’re now five years and more than 150 episodes in. It’s been a great way to demystify appellate work, share practical insights, and build community among lawyers, judges, and law students across Texas.
The best appellate strategy starts well before the verdict. If you’re a trial lawyer looking to position your case for success, let’s talk.
